 The opening line 'Can it be you that I hear?' suggests sense of doubt that speaker is really listening to the voice of a woman. - a contrast to the surety of the opening stanza 

 While the opening line contains the same number of syllabes of the first li
ne in stanza 1, the rhythm to broken by the inclusion of the question mark, reflecting his difficulty in moving on perhaps, or his confused state of mind.

• "As I knew you then" suggests the speaker is remembering a time when their relationship still worked (" You would wait for me")

 "The original air-blue gown" suggests that speaker's memory of her is clear and specific still.
